Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

After meeting Reyn and Cindy in Dubrovnik, Charles and I rented a car and drove a few hours across the Croatian border into neighboring Montenegro, where we spent a few nights on the shores of the lovely Bay of Kotor. Kotor is another walled city, though less "prettified" for tourists than Dubrovnik.

Since we had a car, we stayed along the shores of the bay in neighboring Dobrota, about a 10 minute drive from Kotor. It was nice to have a little peace and quiet, and our AirBnb had a great view of the bay.

If you aren't familiar with the Bay of Kotor, take a look at a map! It's easy to see why early settlers in the region would select this site to put down roots, since the narrow mouth of the bay and towering mountains create a natural defence for any intruders. The water is clear and full of mussel and oyster farms, and we sampled plenty of seafood in the region.

Unfortunately, I was sick for a few days and spent a lot of time in Kotor taking naps and taking it easy. However, we took a hired boat out to the two islands in the center of the bay--Our Lady of the Rocks and Sveti Đorđe. We also spent a day just driving around the bay, and seeing the Kotor walled city. I bought a new dress, which might seem like a trivial detail, but when you only have a few different outfits to choose from, and several of items of clothing you started with have disintegrated, a new dress is a pretty big deal. :)

Next, we left Montenegro and drove back into Croatia to head up the Dalmatian coast! More on that soon.
