Eltz Castle and Brussels, Belgium

After Prague, we decided it was time to satisfy Charles' desire for beer from Belgium, so we hopped back in our rental car and headed west across Germany. Along the way, we stopped at Eltz Castle, which was recommended to us by my mother, Barb, as one of her favorite sites in Germany.

We stopped for a single night to break up the drive in a tiny town near the castle called Macken. The town was so small we struggled to find dinner that night, but when we did we had another taste of traditional German schnitzel in a restaurant where everyone knew each other, except for us.

The next morning we visited Eltz Castle, which was picturesque and away from the tourist throng. We took a tour of the interior, but for me the Disney fairy tale outside was my favorite.

We then drove a few hours to Brussels, where we stayed for three nights. You'll notice we didn't take all that many photos there. That's mainly because we spent a lot of time drinking beer and much less time than normal seeing the sights, though we did see Mannequin Pis and the Grand Plaza, of course. We had the best Belgium waffles we've ever had, and were fascinated that they were made with dough and not with batter the way we do in the U.S.A. We also enjoyed traditional stews and, of course, LOTS of chocolate. French fries are huge in Belgium and are sold in paper cones to eat while on the go.

Next up, Bruges! Stay tuned for more soon!
