Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe - 1 of the 7 Wonders of the Natural World!

We left Cape Town on Saturday, May 6th to fly to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, where we decided to do a safari. The Zimbabwe infrastructure isn’t great (for example, ATMs are almost always out of cash), so we elected to go with a pre-built package with all of the cool stuff scheduled in and paid for so we didn’t have to worry or plan as much.

The first night, we arrived at our hotel in Victoria Falls and had a sunset cruise on the Zambezi river above the falls. The sun felt WAY hotter than normal, since we’re now on our anti-malaria meds, but it was pretty awesome having too many drinks while searching for hippos and crocodiles in the water. We met some really awesome ladies from Canada, who warned us that our Victoria Falls tour the next day would be WET and to dress accordingly.

The next day, we explored Victoria Falls in two different ways. First, we walked along the opposite bank to view the falls up close. Our friends from Canada were right—not only was the mist from the falls pouring rain on our heads, it also somehow splashed up from below and completely drenched us! I was wearing an ankle length poncho, but it didn’t stand a chance against the falls!

Since it was pouring so hard and the mist was so thick, it was difficult to see very much, but was still a cool experience. I was happy we wore swimsuits under our clothes!

After a long lunch we left our lodge again to view the falls from above in a helicopter! The helicopter circled the falls several times, and seeing them from above was truly majestic. See for yourself!

We also saw giraffes from the air!
